Hello

Its Hello From Me

As one half of the newly tested in joint SICA Britain co-ordinators I thoughy I would like to write a few words about myself and where we think SICA might be going.

So first some background. I came to Bristol as an art student  in 1979 and I was opened in Bristol in 1980. In the Subud tradition for new members I rapidly found myself taking on the role of group secretary. This lead to a number of committee roles over the years ranging from group chair, regional chair and national councillor. I also spent time as a group helper in Bristol. At some point in all this committee activity I did talent testing with the national helpers which showed that I should pursue a career in film and television. This started a gradual process moving me towards television where I have carved out a successful career as an editor and developed a long standing interest in writing.

Taking on the role of joint co-ordinator was not in plans when I was asked to stand in for Harry Norman as the Bristol delegate to congress. However talking to Mairi Store, the outgoing SICA chair, made me think that perhaps I should throw my hat in the ring. After all I am interested in culture both in the sense of the arts but also in the wider sense of how we work together in Subud. A quick test about if it was right to put myself forward and one hat was thrown into ring. Another hat was there besides mine and still is. Helen Coak was also tested in and we are now working together in what we hope will be a successful partnership for SICA and Subud Britain.

We both feel gratitude to the work the Mairi has done in her time in office. She has left SICA Britain stronger than she found it. SICA Britain has its own publication in the form of Open Views edited by Lance Edwards from the Chester Group. Ridwan Treacher, from the Maidenhead group, has designed a very professional website.  Marcus Bolt, from the Bristol group, has designed an eye catching SICA Britain logo. We have a good set of accounts looked after by our current  treasurer Mahmud–Henry Rogers from the Bedford group.  So with thanks to Mairi and the work all those mentioned above it seems that, in Mairi’s words, SICA Britain is a wing that is starting to wake up. Helen and I hope we can build on these good foundations.
